Bring your students into CMAG browse our current exhibitions to discover the range of visual art and social history themes and ideas. Teachers may design a visit that is tailored to students' interests and curriculum requirements.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

  • Familiarise yourself with CMAG's current and upcoming exhibitions
  • Contact our Programs Bookings Officer via button to organise date and time of visit and to confirm all relevant details. We will also confirm if you would like to use our drawing supplies to add this activity to your visit
  • Discuss the following museum behaviour expectations with your students:
    • Walking - Please take care to walk only in the gallery.
    • Inside voices - Please use quiet voices so that other visitors can enjoy the exhibition.
    • Safe hands and bodies - Please do not to touch works of art as they are special and fragile. Please keep at least 1 metre away from works of art at all times.
    • Doorways and thoroughfares - When transitioning through the gallery please allow plenty of room for other visitors to experience the exhibitions.
    • Drawing activity - If you wish to undertake this activity during your visit, clipboards, paper and pencils will be distributed to students and must be returned to the red trolley in the CMAG foyer at the end of the visit. Students must be responsible with these materials and ensure they do not cause any damage.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

We will meet and greet each group in the foyer to orientate the group, and:

  • Supply a trolley to store backpacks, food and drink – these must not be taken into the galleries.
  • Provide an acknowledgement of country
  • Reiterate safe gallery behaviours.
  • Distribute clipboards, pencil and paper for a drawing activity in the gallery (if requested).

AFTER YOUR VISIT

As a suggestion, back at school your students could:

Make – Create an artwork inspired by an artwork or exhibition. Consider subject matter, materials, methods, colours, shapes ect.
Respond – Write a review/report/article of their favourite artwork or exhibition and share with the class.
Expand – If your group did a drawing in the gallery, continue with these pieces with additional materials.
Discuss – lead a group discussion about the visit, ask what each student liked best or what they learned.
Borrow - Consider borrowing one of our outreach learning resources for use in your own classroom.
