As the romantic monsoon rain looms in New Dehli, an arranged marriage between Adti (Vasundhara Das) and Texas emigre Hemant (Parvin Dabas) is the stage for five intersecting stories of love as the extended family re-unites from around the world. This is a vibrant patchwork of drama, music, comedy and family secrets. An international co-production, it was both a box office hit and a critical success described as a film that celebrates universal human nature. It was directed and produced by Mira Nair, an Indian-American film maker whose production company is dedicated to presenting Indian society to international audiences.
