The 2024 CMAG Secondary School Photography Prize is NOW OPEN!

Canberra Museum + Gallery (CMAG) is calling for ACT students in years 7-12 to submit their photographic work to the 2024 CMAG Secondary School Photography Prize.

Entry into the competition is free and there is a total prize pool of over $700.

The Photography Prize is open to all secondary students who attend a school in the ACT. Prizes will be awarded in two categories: Year 7 to 10 and Year 11 to 12. A selection of entries will be displayed at Canberra Museum and Gallery as part of the Materiality exhibition.

2024 Theme: Materiality… But Not As We Know It

Connecting with the Materiality… but Not As We Know It exhibition at CMAG, the theme of the 2024 Prize is ‘Materiality’. Entrants are encouraged to explore the different materials around us and explore how materials can be presented in unexpected and intriguing forms, shapes, objects, ideas through their photographic work.

In Materiality… but Not As We Know It, Canberra artists have defied expectations across glass, textile, wood, metal and fibre, untethering themselves from stylistic constraint while responding to key concerns of our times. There are coolamons and boomerangs made from glass, light emitting plasma makes the invisible visible, deconstructed and reconstructed furniture, chemical reactions reversed and the amassing of materials to create emerging forms.
Visit the exhibition and be inspired to capture the unusual and unexpected and enter this year’s CMAG Secondary School Photography Prize competition.
