CMAG serves a unique role as a place to experience the diverse history and contemporary culture of the Canberra region; and through this to gain a deeper understanding of Australia’s dynamic culture in its global setting.

CMAG manages The Nolan Collection on behalf of the Australian Government.

Canberra Museum and Gallery is located on the corner of London Circuit and Civic Square, Canberra City. 

All exhibitions are free.

Open 7 days a week:

Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm
Weekends: 12 - 5pm

Getting here

Canberra Museum and Gallery is conveniently located close to both parking and public transport options.

Bus

The City bus interchange is located 200m walk from CMAG on East Row, and many routes also stop along London Circuit. Details of bus services can be found on the ACTION website, or by phoning 13 17 10.

Parking

Paid car parking is available immediately adjacent to the North side of CMAG off London Circuit. 

Facilities

Access

We are always ready to do our best to assist visitors with special needs. We are fully wheelchair accessible, and have a range of seating options available during floor talks and other public programs. A wheelchair is also available for patron use. Our cafe also caters for a range of dietary requirements.

If additional assistance is required, or if you wish to request the use of our wheelchair, please contact our front of house staff on 02 6207 3968 or cmag@act.gov.au and we will do our best to make arrangements before you arrive.

Cloakroom

On arrival please leave backpacks, large or bulky items in the cloakroom at the reception desk. Bulky items can cause accidental damage to artworks.

School and group visits to the Museum are welcome throughout the year. To help us ensure that your visit is a rewarding one, we ask that you provide us with  advance notice of your visit. Visit our Learning section for more information.

Eating & drinking

CMAG Cafe

The CMAG Cafe is open Mon to Fri, 8.30am–3.00pm. Come in and enjoy a coffee, pastry from Croissant D’or or a wrap from Kindle Catering. Pick up a complimentary copy of the Canberra Times or browse the web with our free wifi.

Museum etiquette

Conditions of Entry

To ensure the safety of the works of art, and in consideration of other visitors, we ask that movement through CMAG be orderly and considerate. For the safety of works of art and visitors, it is a requirement that visitors to CMAG must accept and comply with these conditions.

  • No touching of objects on display
  • No food/drink in the gallery spaces
  • No smoking
  • No large bags or helmets | Cloakroom available at reception desk
  • No umbrellas | Cloakroom available at reception desk
  • No flash photography or as otherwise directed
  • Group visits must be booked in advance
  • Mobile phones should be turned to silent mode
