Nosferatu, loosely adapted from Bram Stoker's original novel Dracula, is celebrating its centenary of release and despite its age is still considered a masterpiece of horror, exemplified in Max Schreck's portrayal, and of silent German Expressionist cinema. The film's lasting legacy is the conventions it established for later vampire films.
Shadow of the Vampire (2000)

This horror/comedy film fictionalizes the production of Nosferatu and is also an homage to the techniques of silent film. Malkovich, as the director Murnau, struggles to keep control as members of his crew die mysteriously. Suspicions begin to point to his eccentric lead actor, Max Schreck, played brilliantly by Dafoe.
