In the late 12th century, nine-year-old Mongol princeling Temujin (the future Genghis Khan, played by Tadanobu Asano) selects Borte as his bride. After his father is killed Temujin is enslaved. He escapes, finds Borte and prepares to go ahead with the marriage. When Borte is kidnapped, Temujin and a friend rescue her but later fall out, leading to civil war. Temujin is again sold into slavery. This time Borte rescues Temujin who later defeats his rivals. An ambitious epic about fidelity and endurance related in an appealing style reminiscent of the very best historical dramas.
