Canberra began its life as an imagined city. Throughout its development artists continue to visually reimagine their own interpretations of its future. Senior Curator Virginia Rigney takes us on a floor talk through Seeing Canberra to explore works which provide new ways of seeing the city. The talk will consider works by contemporary Aboriginal artists Kevin Gilbert and Dean Cross whose works disrupt the narratives of the 'empty' landscape; Lawrence Daws who was commissioned by the National Capital Development Commission in 1960 to paint fresh visualisations of the future city and a range of contemporary artists who provide new ways of seeing the city.
In association with the 2020 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival.
