Piccadilly (1929)
92 minutes, United Kingdom
Director: E.A. Dupont
Cast: Anna May Wong, Gilda Grey, Jameson Thomas

Shosho (Wong) is a Chinese woman working as a dishwasher in London’s glamorous Piccadilly Club. Caught distracting the kitchen staff with her improvised dance act, she is sacked. Later Shosho is recalled to the club to perform as a dancer, where she becomes a sensation. Professional and romantic jealousies set in, leading to tragedy. Piccadilly is a fast-paced, racy and extraordinarily beautiful silent film, arguably the best of its kind ever produced in the UK. The DVD has been prepared by the British Film Institute and is a masterpiece of restoration. A perfect introduction to the silent genre.

Please join us after the screening for Christmas drinks and nibbles.
